Happy 2015 everyone.

20141101_806

We’re now taking bookings for our first three markets of 2015.

  • Saturday 7th February
  • Saturday 7th March
  • Saturday 4th April

(these dates are now fully booked, we’re taking names for the waiting list)

To book in just email makeandmendmarket@gmail.com letting me know which dates you’d like. If this is your first market with us make sure to send some details about what you do and photos of your work.

These are our regular handmade, art, design and recycled markets. Stalls are £25 each – a table, cloth and 2 chairs are provided. The council require stallholders at the Grainger Market to have public liability for up to £5million (find out about public liability). The market runs from 9am – 5pm.

We aren’t taking bookings from sellers of baked goods for our Grainger Market events. This type of food is well catered for by the shops in the Grainger Market.

Payment can be made by paypal or cheque. Just let me know which you prefer when booking and I’ll send details.

Thank You!

Our market goes from strength to strength thanks to our fantastic stallholders and wonderful customers. I’d like to say a big thank you to everybody who’s been to the market this year. It’s been lovely. Hope you’ll join us again in 2015 for a great set of markets. First Saturday of the month in the Grainger Market, starting in February.

Here’s some photos from our September market to give you an idea of what to expect from us next year. We’re always finding new stallholders so there’s plenty of surprises in store too.

Make & Mend Fictional Worlds Market

Join us in your own fictional world.

Make & Mend has gathered the best artists, designers and makers in the North East for this very special market.

Make & Mend Market Fictional Worlds Market PosterOn Facebook? Join the Make & Mend Fictional Worlds event and invite your friends.

Our stallholders create their own worlds every time they make. We’ve chosen the most inspirational and unique in handmade, upcycled, local and independent work.

Beautiful art for your home. Custom designed items, just for you. Magnificent jewellery. Carefully created ceramics, fresh from the kiln. … and so much more.

Pop in for a short visit in your own Wonder Land or make it a grand day out. The Library has fantastic facilities for all with a lovely cafe, brilliant children’s area and of course books for you to read, borrow and get lost in. Located just off Whitley Bay main street, we’re easy to get to and a hop away from the beach on this Bank Holiday weekend.

Would you like to be part of this market?

We currently have stalls available. For details please email makeandmendmarket@gmail.com with a little bit about yourself and what you make. We love to see photos of your work.

It’s Good to be Creative

I love a bit of statistics. The only thing missing from the Department for Culture, Media & Sport’s recent press release, Creative Industries worth £8million an hour to UK economy, is a visually appealing graph.

I can’t wait for their new website design to be applied to our pesky tax return forms. Speaking of which, online returns are due at the end of January. Have you filled yours in? Lois Addy’s UK Tax for Small Crafting Business Series is a great place to start if you’re filling in the form for the first time. If you’re really struggling though, Lois points out “there is no substitute for taking paid for professional advice specific to your circumstances”.

Good luck with your creative endeavours during 2014. Hope you’ll join us for our first market of the year, 1st February in the Grainger Market.

We’re currently taking bookings for 21st September and 14th December in the Star and Shadow Cinema. It feels so wrong talking about Christmas already but it’s getting closer and closer.

At our September market here there will be workshops and activities, if you’d like to run one let me know (we’ll start announcing our workshops soon).

Ever wondered how to spot the Make & Mend?

This might just be an excuse to show off the sign, I’m proud of it. You’ll see our sign outside the doors of the Star and Shadow or beside the Nun Street entrance to the Grainger Market.

We’re really easy to find. If you’re in the Grainger Market head towards the entrance opposite the new Eldon Square bit, we’re in the exhibition space there, right beside the flower stalls. Come by and say hello at our next market on the 2nd February. We’re also back there again on the 2nd March, nice.

How about when we’re at the Star and Shadow? We’re right inside the doors! But also in the bar space. Our next event at the Star and Shadow is a special Vintage and Spring Fashion event on the 17th March, keep your eyes open for more details on that one soon.

Christmas is Coming!

There’s snow falling outside, my fingers are numb and one certain set of neighbours have had their decorations up for a month. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

So, while Newcastle turns white with Snow the Star and Shadow will be turning red and green for our Christmas Market. It’s looking to be a great one.
