Meet Rebecca Ridley of Rebecca Ridley Ceramics

As part of our virtual markets we’re interviewing makers from across the North East. Shop local and shop small. If you’d like to get involved or help out the local creative community you can check out the #virtualmakeandmend hashtag on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

What do you make?

Ceramic homeware and Jewellery.

How long have you been making?

I’ve been making with clay for 8 years but after graduating from the Decorative Arts course at Nottingham Trent Uni I stated Rebecca Ridley Ceramics! Now i focus on running workshops for all ages and making objects with mindfulness in mind, allowing every object to take on there own characteristics.

Have you started a new project during lockdown?

I’ve taken on the challenge of #throwforthenhs! On the first of every month I’ll be throwing a few objects (mugs, planters ect). Then donating 100% of the profits from the sale of the objects to NHS charities.

Do you have any advice for new makers?

Just keep going! Earning a living from being a marker isn’t always easy but is incredibly rewarding in the long run.
